Geographic Issues Group Work

Your Task: Your class has been asked by the Australian Geographic Society to compile a report on geographic issues currently facing Australia. To achieve this task, your class will be divided into 6 groups.

Group 1: Air Quality
Group 2: Coastal Management
Group 3: Land and Water Management
Group 4: Spatial Inequality
Group 5: Urban Growth and Decline
Group 6: Waste Management

Once your group has been assigned their Geographic Issue, you must research the following three areas:

1. Nature of the issue
a) Provide a definition of the issue
b) Describe the processes of the issue (how the problem has happened) and
c) Describe an example of where the issue has occurred in Australia

2. Impact of the Issue
a) Social (how the issue impacts people)
b) Economic (what financial costs have occurred) and
c) Environmental (how the issue impacts on the natural environment)

3. Responses - What have the following three groups done to help fix this issue?
a) Individuals
b) Non-government groups (such as Greenpeace) and
c) Government (Local, State or Federal Governments)

How will you present your information to the class?

Your group can choose one of the following Presentation Methods:
1. PowerPoint Presentation
2. Windows Movie Maker Presentation
3. TV Newscast – where members of your group act as TV Presenters talking about your assigned Geographic Issue
4. A website blog

Regardless of your group’s chosen presentation method, your group still needs to provide the class with a summary table in Microsoft Word.

Once every group has presented their information, we can then put all of the research together in a Microsoft Word Document.
